Simona Paula is an emerging singer-songwriter from the Faroe Islands. She discovered her passion for the guitar at age 10, initially borrowing instruments before investing in her own. Through the guitar, Simona found a way to express her feelings, transforming challenging moments into heartfelt songs. Over the years, her confidence and desire to share her music have grown, leading her to introduce her work to a broader audience. Simona Paula released her debut album Spegil in late 2024.

“Sjóborgin” (Sea Fortress) is a deeply personal song for Simona as it reflects on the tragedy of losing her father, grandfather, and uncle all in one day when their boat sank in 1998. Though she was just two months old at the time, the sorrow and unanswered questions surrounding the event have lingered in her life. The song honors her mother’s incredible strength in raising Simona and her siblings, providing them with a happy life despite their loss. “The journey was harsh / Like a storm without mercy / But you stand here / Like a beacon / That never falls / I dare not ask / How you’re doing / Because if you were to break / Then I would break too.”
