Paulo Flores is a legendary Angolan singer-songwriter and was born in the Angolan capital of Luanda. He is one of the most important artists in Angolan music today, keeping the flame of semba music alive in the 21st century. He is also a Peace Ambassador for the country of Angola.

As a youth in Guinea Bissau, Manecas Costa was immersed in the rich musical traditions of his native land: the choirs of the Manjak and Jola, the dancing balafons of the Balanta, Manding kora music and the enticing sensuality of gumbe, a Creole dance rhythm. Inspired by the great Guinean guitarist Jose Carlos Shwarz, Costa took up the guitar at the age of nine. He moved to Lisbon in 1990, working with many Portuguese legends as well as international stars.
