Lyon Hansen is a singer-songwriter from the Faroe Islands, a remote and geographically striking archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean that is an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark. His music, which is rooted in blues and folk traditions, explores universal themes like love and loss with a raw, unpolished sound. Raised in the small town of Gøtugjógv, he grew up surrounded by a church, a congregation hall, a bank, and the ocean—elements that shaped the imagery and mood of his songs. Weaving together tales of joy, sorrow, madness, and serenity, his songs blur the lines between truth and fiction.

“Leið 400” (Route 400) tells the story of two lovers saying goodbye at a bus station, blending acoustic guitar, a century-old harmonium, and Guðrið Hansdóttir’s ethereal backing vocals for a reflective, nostalgic sound. Written, performed, and produced in Hansen’s living room, his lyrics similarly reflect a small-town, intimate feel: “Do you have anything to say / Before I disappear / Onto the bus / And into the darkness / Forgetting all about the kiss / And everything I wrote / In your apartment / In your bed / That was far too small.”
