La Isla Centeno is a Mexican musical duo formed in Guadalajara in 2017 by María Centeno and Lito de la Isla (thus the name of the group, which is derived from their last names and translates roughly as “The Island of Rye”). Known for their unique fusion of Latin rhythms such as bolero and rumba with modern folk and pop, they have built a distinctive and engaging sound that has earned them a growing following. Their lyrics are introspective and poetic, exploring love, loss, and personal growth. In addition to their recorded work, they received the prestigious María Grever Composition Grant and performed at the 2022 edition of the Vive Latino Festival. La Isla Centeno’s music offers a nostalgic yet contemporary experience, inviting listeners into a soulful, immersive refuge.

"Niña de Mis Ojos" (Girl of Eyes) is from La Isla Centeño’s most recent of their four albums, 2023’s Medianoche. On this haunting and beautiful love song, María Centeno sings “Bird of my sky, warmth of my fire / Never leave because I love you / Light of my mornings, moon of my beach / If you’re with me, I lack nothing.”
