"Minha Bahia" (My Bahia) first appeared on Ian Lasserre's second album, Átimo. The song is a celebration of the beauty and laid-back nature of Bahia, a state in Brazil known for its rich culture and vibrant music scene. Lasserre describes the orange sunsets and rolling hills that stir his heart, repeating "Êa, êa, êa, my Bahia."
From his 2020 album Átimo on the Swedish label alabu!, “Sem Condições de Navegar” (Unable to Sail) is a reflective and poetic meditation on feelings of stagnation, vulnerability, and longing for direction amidst life's challenges. The metaphor of being unable to navigate or sail evokes imagery of a boat stranded in uncertain waters, symbolizing moments when external or internal forces prevent forward motion. Through its poignant lyrics and gentle, flowing melody, the song captures a sense of introspection and emotional rawness. It delves into the human experience of facing obstacles that seem insurmountable, while also suggesting a quiet resilience and the possibility of finding one's way again. The evocative instrumentation on the Café International track further enhances the mood, blending traditional Brazilian elements with a contemporary acoustic sound.
