“Amor de Janaína” (Love of Janaína) features Brazilian singer Ceumar, who got her start in the early 1990s performing in clubs in her hometown Belo Horizonte in the state of Mina Gerais. Her big break came in 1999 with the release of her debut album Dindinha, which was produced by Brazilian star Zeca Baleiro. The song is a tribute to Yemanjá, the Afro-Brazilian goddess of the sea who is honored with an oceanside ceremony every February 2. “Lady, mistress of the sea / Lady of the tides / In the ebb and flow of the waves / I offer my faith.” The term “Janaína” is also associated with Yemanja and is used to refer to her in a more affectionate or intimate manner.
