Formed in Geneva, Switzerland in 2016, the band Cosmic Shuffling is devoted to the classic sound of 1960s Jamaican rocksteady and ska. They released their first album, Magic Rocket Ship, in 2020 and followed that up with the 2023 album Cosmic Quest. Channeling the spirit of legends such as The Skatalites and Soul Brothers, Cosmic Shuffling is part a thriving retro Jamaican music scene in Europe. The band works with vintage analog technology to recreate the sound of the past while appealing to a hip and vibrant young scene.

“Short Break” was produced by Mathias Liengme, a Swiss keyboardist and researcher who has dedicated himself to the study and promotion of the golden age of Jamaican roots music which stretched from the mento years of the 1950s to the ska and rocksteady years of the 60s into to rub-a-dub sound of the 80s. Liengme started his record label Fruits Records to record forgotten Jamaican musicians from this era as well as new bands such as Cosmic Shuffling that are dedicated to keeping the music thriving into the future.
